Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire VR Experience Coming to Disney Parks

secrets of the empire VRLast week Lucasfilm and THE VOID announced Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, a new virtual reality experience set to debut at Disney Springs and Downtown Disney this holiday season. Defined as a hyper-reality experience, Secrets of the Empire “will allow fans to move freely in an untethered, social, and multi-sensory experience, including interaction with friends, fans, and Star Wars characters.” The experience appears to be a step up from ILMxLab’s “Trials of Tatooine,” which was showcased at Celebration London last year. This does not appear to be the Darth Vader-centric collaboration with David S. Goyer announced last summer. The iconic Star Wars villain did show up in a VR demo at Apple’s WWDC a couple months ago and his castle on Mustafar appears in the image accompanying the press release.

What is THE VOID? According to its press page, “THE VOID goes beyond virtual reality as it is currently conceptualized, using interactive sets along with gear to create immersive experiences that everyone can enjoy. Each experience at THE VOID is constructed on a custom physical stage built specifically for each world.” VRWorld.com calls the company’s Ghostbusters: Dimensions “one of best cases for VR [they]’ve encountered.”
