August 2011 Preview

So was July as good as I had expected it to be? Space Shuttle Atlantis successfully launched, San Diego Comic-Con came and went, Choices of One by Timothy Zahn hit bookstore shelves and then I got to meet him at SDCC – and geek girls were all the rage talking about what’s sexy, the awesomeness of Princess Leia and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and how we can create better female characters.  And did I mention all of my swag from the convention? Honestly, I’m not sure August could be a better month, but they can’t all be like July or I’d be pooped.

Looking forward, some of the happenings in August, particularly with the Fate of the Jedi: Ascension release early in the month, I expect there to be a lot of discussion to come.

San Diego Comic Con wrap-ups – Apparently I’m much slower than the rest of the world at getting my thoughts down on all the fantastic panels I attended. Early this month I’ll cover the many Star Wars panels, what things I overheard, and my impressions of the creative process coming out of my favorite franchise.

REVIEW: Fate of the Jedi: Ascension – Christie Golden’s third entry into the Star Wars flagship series will hit bookstores this month.  With many fans questioning her portrayal of women in Allies and Golden handwaving those concerns as fans with their own “issues,” will anything have changed for the women of Fate of the Jedi? Golden and Shapiro both noted recently that initial buzz was good, but that’s not what I’m hearing or saying.  Before you hand over your hard-earned money to Del Rey, make sure you check out the reviews here and elsewhere. You might save the inevitable hole repair in your drywall…

Fictional Endeavors of My Own – The blog may be a little slower this month as I concentrate my word counts toward the fictional side of my writing. As part of the creative process I have planned a few more blogs on the different elements I consider as I’m writing, including discussions on creators and the mystical elements of my story.  There might be a few hints there as to what to expect from my upcoming novel, including a title and a book trailer. More excerpts will be posted at my website, TriciaBarr.com.

Talking Shop – In June I posted the first of my planned business-related blogs.  This month I’ll answer the next question: Who?  I’m going to discuss what my goals when designing this blog almost a year ago, and whether I’ve reached my objectives.
