October 2011 Preview
An interview with Michael Stackpole in September – how could I possibly top that? It always seems impossible, but things keep getting better and better. Some of the upcoming October events I can’t really talk about… yet. So you’ll just have to wait and see. Here’s a quick list of some of things you should expect to see this month.
Geek Girl Con reports – October is actually a busy month for conventions, and I had to make a choice between New York Comic-Con, Star Wars Fan Days, and Geek Girl Con. While the first two are on my fangirl bucket list, I felt like I needed to throw my support the way of the geek girl community and head to Seattle. I’ve invited my sister and niece to come, and we’re going to join up with some other long-time fangirl friends to enjoy this inaugural convention experience. Who knows, in twenty years we may be saying, I remember the first one of these.
DC Comics: The New 52 – I had a lot on my plate in September, so I didn’t really get to cover the DC Comics relaunch. I’ve been keeping on eye on the good, the bad, and the downright ugliness. As always, I have a few thoughts to add on the portrayal of some of the female characters, but I’m going to put a businesswomen’s perspective into the mix. Perhaps DC’s missing some great potential growth in the marketplace by not actively engaging the female fans on a variety of levels.
Star Wars: TCW, Star Wars: TOR, Star Wars: Riptide – Did I say Star Wars enough times? Hey, I didn’t even mention the Complete Saga Blu-rays or The Complete Vader in that subtitle. There’s so much exciting going on for Star Wars fans right now, all I can say is that I’ll be writing a lot about it this month. Make sure you check out The Clone Wars on the Cartoon Network on Fridays at 8:00 p.m., and check out the ForceCast to hear live coverage from Star Wars FanDays.
My Writing Endeavors – The writing on my own novel was slow in September, but the life experiences I gained during my trip to Tanzania surely weren’t wasted. I had a lot of time on the plane and in the tour vehicles to think about the storytelling, my characters, and the cover art, so expect to see more here and at triciabarr.com over the next couple of months.
What’s up with all the PINK lightsabers? – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s an important issue that has affected this fangirl’s family and friends, and I think it’s important enough to raise awareness for all fans. So raise your pink lightsabers…
