Linda Interviews Dark Horse Star Wars Editor Randy Stradley

Randy Stradley is Vice President and Star Wars Senior Editor and writer for Dark Horse Comics. I met him at Celebration VI when a group of us were hanging out at the hotel lobby. As FANgirl Blog’s Sith Inquisitor/Public Relations, the first question I asked Randy was for an interview.

The second question was about the Pith helmet he was wearing. I learned that, martinis in hand, Randy and Ryder Windham were holding court as the Pith Lords. Admittedly I have a certain fascination with Sith Lords, but this was a new one to me. Other than the bad guys in Indiana Jones, who wears a pith helmet anyway? And shouldn’t they have been drinking gin and tonics? Randy explained it was a fundraiser to support and promote the charity work of their local 501st Legions.

After my questions, it was Randy’s turn to question me about my qualifications to interview him. I told him about the comic books I’ve read. As a kid, The Phantom and Asterix and Obelix. More recently, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series –I even have a complete autographed set. Fortunately, my answers about satisfied Randy, and he agreed to the interview. The next day, I made my donation, acquired my own Pith helmet, and got inducted into their Pith Army.

Randy also gave me a homework assignment before our interview: Dark Times. Reading the whole series to date, I found it to be at times unsettling, sometimes pure adventure, at other times thought provoking, and always engrossing. While the series certainly lives up to its title of “dark,” it was a great way to rejoin the world of comics

Randy’s impressive breadth of knowledge and Star Wars experience is apparent in the interview. I hope you enjoy it.
