Tricia visits Clone Wars Roundtable
Between Megan’s review and my own thoughts, it seems the fangirls enjoyed the first Jedi Youngling episode. Wednesday night I joined Jason, Jimmy Mac, and Big Honkin’ Steve on the ForceCast Clone Wars Roundtable to discuss “The Gathering.” The first half hour we discussed the ramifications of the Disney deal and how it might have affected The Clone Wars. The back half hour we dissected the episode. My favorite analysis came from Steve when he called “The Gathering” Mortis-light.
Near the end, Jason asked me – as the girl who said Luke Skywalker Must Die – about my thoughts on Luke’s fate in the Sequel Trilogy. I think it’s too early to say, but really the sentiment of that post was my hope to see George Lucas’ vision return to the storytelling. In that regard, The Clone Wars specifically has renewed my faith that whatever happens in the Sequel Trilogy, it will be in the vein of the Star Wars that captivated my imagination a long time ago.
On the heels of the news from Vulture that Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3, Catching Fire) had written the treatment for the Sequels, StarWars.com has released the next video with Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas. More promising signs for Star Wars as far as I see it.

The choice of Arndt to pen a treatment makes perfect sense, given both his prestige as a screenwriter and his close relationship with Disney’s equally secretive Pixar — he’s the screenwriter of the cheekily titled Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind for Up director Pete Docter, currently in preproduction — but there’s one more reason still that Arndt would be so appealing to Disney and Lucasfilm: He’s a Star Wars expert.

“The incredible thing about George is, this is not like a series of books like Harry Potter, where you’ve already got a template of what the stories might be. These are original stories and original ideas that come out of a world that essentially in is George’s head. So the beauty of the collaboration that can continue, is that as we’re working our way through these scripts, if we’re sitting and saying, hmm, I wonder if this character can do that, or does this make sense within the rules of Star Wars, that really he’s the keeper of the flame when it comes to that.”
Last night I laid out some of the key points in the timeline leading up to the confirmation from Lucasfilm that Arndt is the Episode VII screenwriter.
